Verdict

Depends on how you trade

Option Alpha automates trades and OMP supports your own decisions. Option Alpha runs rule-based bots through a connected broker and is free with a qualifying broker account. OMP is built for traders who find, compare and model trades themselves and place the orders with their own broker.

Choose Option Alpha to backtest a set of rules and run it as a bot through your broker. Choose OMP to find, compare and model trades that you place yourself. The two can sit side by side: OMP for the research, Option Alpha for a plan you have already tested.

Where the workflows separate

The same four stages, side by side: how each product takes you from an idea to a tracked trade.

1

Find ideas

OMP connected workflow

Scan a saved watchlist or a broad universe for strategy candidates, then carry the exact result forward.

Option Alpha

Follow personal and curated watchlists for IV rank, momentum and earnings, or let a bot filter market data against your rules.

2

Compare and model

OMP connected workflow

Rank strikes and expiries in Matrix, then open the exact legs in the Visualizer with expected move, Greeks and scenario controls.

Option Alpha

Define entry and exit rules, then backtest variations side by side and combine up to four tests into one portfolio curve.

3

Place the trade

OMP connected workflow

Place the order with your own broker. OMP does not route orders.

Option Alpha

A bot submits the order through your broker’s API. Your capital stays in your broker account.

4

Track and review

OMP connected workflow

Save the setup as a campaign, keep the thesis and notes, and ask AI Analyst for a second view.

Option Alpha

Review bot logs, performance stats and position history, and override trades manually when needed.

5

Important differences to know

  • OMP does not run bots, send orders or backtest a rule set. You place and manage every trade yourself.
  • Option Alpha lists live autotrading with Tradier, TradeStation, tastytrade and Charles Schwab for stocks and options. It does not support futures, futures options or forex, and it does not accept professional subscribers.
  • Option Alpha backtests cover SPX, SPY, QQQ, IWM and XSP and eight position types. Short puts and covered calls are not on its backtest list.
  • Bot backtests test rules over time. Matrix and the Visualizer examine specific contracts at today’s prices, so the two answer different questions.
